Flyball

Over the 12 years of photographing competitive dog sports one of the most exciting sports to photograph is FLYBALL RACING.

We have archived over 500,000 images of canines in this highly competitive dog sport. Our extensive library of Flyball Dogs includes tournaments across Canada under the North American Flyball Association NAFA and several in the United States covering U-FLI tournaments in Texas, Utah and most recently the 2010 U-Fli Championships in ST.Louis, MO.

WHAT IS FLYBALL? Flyball is ADDICTIVE! Flyball is LOUD! Flyball is FAST! Flyball is…. DRAG RACING FOR DOGS!!

Flyball started as a dog sport in the late 1960′s, in Southern California. A tennis ball-launching apparatus was added and the first flyball box was born. Herbert Wagner is credited with making the first real flyball box, and he also demonstrated flyball on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.

Flyball is a dog sport in which a team of 4 dogs race against each other from a start/finish line, over 4 hurdles, to a box that releases a tennis ball to be caught when the dog hits the spring loaded pad, the dog runs back towards their handler with the ball. Another dog is released as the first dog is returning, but not before the first dog crosses the start/finish line. Timing is critical for the passing of dogs at the start/finish line, nose to nose passes without faults are common.

The current World Record is 14.864 seconds and is held by Touch N Go of Las Vegas, NV. It was set on April 25, 2010 at a sanctioned U-FLI event. Touch N Go is the first and only team to have ever broken into the 14-second barrier in any sanctioned flyball competition or league/association in the world.
